I'm finding a lack of purpose in my life; I need direction

In my freshman year of college and I'm currently Undecided as my major right now but I think shit involving the brain and perception and psychology is really cool I just don't know how I'd get a well-paying job from that

I don't have any exceptional and inherent "hard" talents, besides being kinda good at math

I only have "soft" talents, like being able to articulate myself extremely clearly and having (subjectively) good taste in forms of media and being able to acknowledge when I'm wrong and think introspectively and external analysis

Things I'm interested in are: brain-related shit (tendencies, behaviors, ideas, dreams, perception etc.), innovation in technology, acting and movies!!!!

Ultimately I want to live in a nice fucking house with a nice fucking car in a nice fucking area and be able to travel and live in luxury

How do I go about doing this

I've found that not having any long-term goals has made me susceptible to latching onto every little daily insignificant losses & wins I get and letting that dictate my emotions without looking at/focusing on the big picture

You want hard skills? Then study compsci, learn about AI, deep learning and etc. Study psychology in your own time via books or documentaries. Ain't any money in that field if you get a degree in it.

Edit: Develop your interests to the point where you can get paid to consult about it. Whether you make a blog or own a business. Also the key to creating goals is keeping agreements with yourself, if you break them then you disrespectful yourself. Start small and then gradually grow your aspirations.

I'm always told "med school is a waste of time and you'll be in so much debt"
:what:

1) you'll earn more than enough to satisfy those debts in a timely manner
2) if you have the smarts for med school, sure enough you have the ability to obtain some sort of scholarships to offset some of the debt
3) the payoff of being able to help people and literally contribute to society should be rewarding enough

I don’t think so. Any degree in the medical field is going to make you some nice money especially if you keep going to school after you already get a job. Your job might help you pay for some of it or be well-paying enough so that it’s not taking all your money. It can be very competitive to get into certain programs. I’ve honestly been thinking about nursing myself.

major in psych or cognitive science if your school offers that major. if your school has research opportunities try, if you can join a perception or any other psych research lab as an undergrad volunteer.
im taking both psych and cognitive science right now i just don't know how they could translate into something lucrative

honestly you won't be able to do much with a bachelors in either major. that's why i suggested joining a research lab, see if you like research. a lot of psych and cog sci research is pretty interesting and if you enjoy it, grad school would be an option. i would also suggest programming classes tailored for behavioral sciences

so doing research in those fields would enable me to have better a opportunity to get into med school?

do you know why advice from successful people always seems so cliche? it's because it's true.

find something you love, and bury yourself in it.

it doesn't have to be creative, but it has to be something you enjoy the process of as much as you enjoy the end goal, whether that be working in psychiatry, science, tech companies, the film industry, or any other number of things.

just figure out what you enjoy doing, and think of a way to get paid for it. in the mean time, a business degree is always a good look if you can't decide.

yes, research is a vital part of your med school application. if you're serious about med school and want advice, DM me. i'm applying this coming cycle.

but if you really only care about making money and living comfortably, i would prob advice against med school and graduate school in psych related fields

What if I told you despite your anxieties and nervousness about your present and future that there are billionaires currently profiting off of the detriment of the American people and it’s values and ultimately what we do will mean nothing in 12 years when we start feeling the effects of climate change

That on top of massive amounts of debt from healthcare or student loans you along with every other American reading this were brought into a broken system in a broken world and in the end it’s what we do with our time that’ll matter

Stop worrying so much and spend time doing things you want to do. I’m not saying go full lazy just stop stressing out about it as much. Learn as you go along
