2008
Saigon- rap career never took off. was notable for being in entourage. #FLOP

Plies- was doing it big for a good couple years. Had some hits then he fell off. Now he's made a comeback off his instagram videos and the whole #SweetPwussySaturday thing. #ModerateSuccess

Rich Boy - Throw Some Ds was a huge hit and still is a classic. Too bad it's the only thing He's known for #FLOP

Gorilla Zoe- Had a couple hits. Then disappeared.  #FLOP

Joell Ortiz - Solo career hasnt taken off a great Deal but slaughterhouse is  making a lot of noise so he has that #ModerateSuccess

Lupe Fiasco-  released two great albums. released two mediocre ones after. Released a great album in January and has more planned now that he's off Atlantic. probably the best artist of this class.  #Success

Lil Boosie-was locked up for a long time. Now that he's out he's made a great comeback by putting out some decent releases. #Success

Crooked I- See Joell Ortiz

Papoose- absolute train wreck of a career. Dissed a bunch of rappers and got super irrelevant since.  #FLOP

Young Dro- when this list came out shoulder lean was a hit the he became a one hit wonder. Then 6 years later he made a comeback with FDB then he became a two hit wonder?  Has some decent music but can't keep his Buzz #KindaFlop

2009
Wale- spent a lot of time struggling,  trying to find himself musically id say. but he's very successful right now and is doing well. #Success

B.o.B- Had two hits. Disappears but comes out with radio songs now and then.  I personally don't like Him. #ModerateSuccess

Charles Hamilton-  career went down the shitter Until recently. He's tryna restart over  so I'll give him that. #ModerateSuccess

Asher Roth- slowly faded into the darkness after the i love college song got old. I haven't heard much from him since. #FLOP

Cory Gunz- was signed to young money. Became Wayne's apprentice but gained zero Buzz. I guess that's what happens to YM artists
#FLOP

Blu- Pretty ight artist but got caught up in a lot of record label drama but He'll probably best be known for his hilarious beef with Schoolboy Q  :jordanlaff: (if you haven't seen it look it up it's the funniest thing ever) #FLOP

Mickey Factz-another dope artist who was screwed over by his label. laid low since forever. He actually made a song with drake a while back tho surprisingly. #FLOP

Ace Hood- made a couple bangers, some were hits  and had songs with DJ khaled but couldn't really be marketed. he's the average turn up rapper sorta like a poor man's Rick Ross #ModerateSuccess

Curren$y- makes cool music. Hasn't completely blown up but he hasn't really fallen off. He's in the middle. And He's gonna stay that way #Success

Kid Cudi- Ahh cudi. Where do I start? Made a dope album.  followed it up with a decent one. Then his music turned to shit. One of those artists that had everything set but messed it up himself. Constantly changing yet staying the same if that makes sense. Despite all this he's as relevant as ever so i guess he's a #Success

2010
J. Cole- let's be honest whether you think his music is boring Cole is one of the most successful/biggest freshman of all time. He's one of the biggest rappers out now.  You can't argue that he's been a
#Success

Pill- I remember there was some Buzz around this guy He signed to Rick Ross' MMG and he got a cosign from Andre 3k even. But his career just never really took off. I guess it was a record label issue. But it was more of him never living up to the expectations #FLOP

Nipsey Hussle- dude makes some pretty good music.  He was all over the place Last year with the collabs. Still hasnt released a Fucking album after like 3 years tho. He's pretty relevant #Success

Freddie Gibbs- who doesn't like a lil gangsta Gibbs? (Apart from jeezy but who does he like?) Freddie Makes pretty decent music. And  has so far lived up to the hype surrounding him. He still is a few releases away from being having a collection of great albums.  #Success

Big Sean- If this was 2014 id say this was a moderate success. Simply because FF and HOF were very bland albums. We all knew Sean was better than that. Thankfully he proved a lot of people wrong with DSP And that makes him a
#Success

Wiz Khalifa- As badly as you want it Wiz will never make another Kush & OJ. He Ain't. Esp after he eating off See you again there won't be. He's as relevant as ever but his last albums were really questionable #Success

OJ da Juiceman- Man I used to be the BIGGEST gucci stan and that trap say aye song was big.  But man i really wanted OJ to blow up. But he never did. He didn't give a fuck about rap and would've possibly stayed relevant if he put half the effort he put in trappin. #FLOP

Jay Rock- 5 years later This is probably the strangest pick of this class. Not only because he was in the same one as Oj da juiceman but because it feels like he blew up 2 years ago.
Anyways. he was assfucked by his label. Follow Me Home was an incredible album but Warner fucked that One up big time. Very dope artist but hasn't released anything since. If this next album does well i can see rock being a huge #Success

Fashawn- Fucking hell people knew who fashawn was 5 years ago? I swear this dude has been "on the come up" or "ready to blow up" forever. We gotta accept the fact that he's not #FLOP

Donnis- I honestly think that xxl picks one irrelevant artist every year just to be edgy. This year it was this guy. Donnis really was never on the come up nor was he anywhere close to getting as big as any of his classmates. Dumb inclusion. He's about as relevant as bell bottoms. #FLOP

2011
Meek Mill - decent artist. Made consistent music can't Really  hate on him. His next album should be good tho #Success

Big K.R.I.T.- i like his music. one of my favorite artists you should really check him out. Nice dude as well met him at a gas station in Mississippi. #Success

Cyhi The Prynce- Man cyhis career is like a bomb with a mile long fuse. Has potential but hasn't blown up as much as he should. I blame GOOD. But he hasn't really been a flop so ill give him a #ModerateSuccess

Lil Twist- why would you include Wayne's weed carrier on this list? Really dumb choice #FLOP

Yelawolf- i hate Yelawolf and his music. His music is really unlikable. His last album did well tho. Hes in such a weird category I'll give him a #Ehh

Fred the Godson- :hah: one of the worst picks of all time. Not only is this dude irrelevant as smallpox but he doesn't even have a Wikipedia page. :koolaid: What the hell were they thinking including him. #FLOPAINTEVENTHERIGHTWORDFORHIM
Edit: I just heard his music and i don't think it can get worse than this. This is the pinnacle of shitty picks. Xxl made the knicks pick seem smart.

Mac Miller- mac was mad successful. Has a crazy work ethic and became rich af for staying indie for a while until he signed his deal. #Success

YG-Took him a couple years to blow up but i think him and mustard were running the coast for a bit Dope too..#Success

Lil B- from a non circle jerk point of view. He's gained a lot of internet love. He also influenced a lot of artists like Kendrick and Earl. He can actually rap too. #Success

Kendrick Lamar- Come on you all know him. What did you think it was gonna be. in my opinion the best pick in xxl history. He doesnt need a paragraph. #Success

Diggy Simmons- let's be honest. If his dad was a janitor he wouldn't receive any fame At all. Average ass artist. Glad he's irrelevant. #FLOP

2012
Future- scorching hot right now one of the best artists in the game and for sure the hottest in Atlanta.  Went on a run recently and isn't done yet. #Success

Kid Ink- very average rapper. The type that was made for radio. Has a couple hits but other than that is incredibly average. #ModerateSuccess

Danny Brown-dope artist released two solid projects but hasnt released anything since Old dropped. Has been quiet lately #ModerateSuccess

French Montana- has been killin shit lately and isn't done yet there's more to come of him.#SuccessHAAANHH.

Macklemore-I don't like his music either but look he took a lot of Ws commercially and was huge for a while. Starting to fade a little #Success

Don Trip- Xxl all sat in their offices looking at The poll results for the freshman candidates. ''Hmm, this don trip guy has no hits, buzz ,or a Wikipedia page we need to be edgy for the sake of edginess so let's add him to this cover!'' #FLOOOP

Machine Gun Kelly- hear me out. MGK is one of those artists that are just there. yeah they're kinda relevant but are they? Is the music good? haven't people got tired of him? This to me warrants a #FLOP

Hopsin- jokes aside hops not doing very well. A lot of people don't see him as a figure in rap. Not a respected artist and almost hated by all of rap (apart from the obvious fans) is he really successful? #FLOPPYTOPPY

Iggy Azalea- ok we all hate her blah blah but she was super successful and you can't deny that she was big on the charts. And yea she sucks but she has had a share of #suc.c..e...s.s

Roscoe Dash- yooo :hah: they included this guy about 2 years late. When he was hot he had multiple hits and was on his way to irrelevancy which he has successful accomplished #FLØP

2013
Schoolboy Q- good artist released a good album. Livin up the TDE hype and so far has more to come until he's at the top of the top. Also if you haven't, follow him on snapchat @hoovaq he's hilarious. #SUCCESS

Trinidad James- such a sad story trinidad.was on top of the world. Then he Made a lot of dumb mistakes which ruined his career. Number 1 signed with a major label that had no intention of helping him. (Fucked him over) Then he dissed NY which led to a lot of hate. It all ended so terribly for him #ModerateFlop

Joey Bada$$- released his debut this year. Wasn't all that tbh. He's has some cool tracks I guess. but I guess he's going thru the stage of finding yourself. #ModerateSuccess

Ab-Soul- I like ab-soul but good lord is he inconsistent. Control system was an AMAZING album. He follows it up with These days which was a disappointment. He had a window but he let it pass him.  He still has a LOT of catching up to do. #ModerateSuccess

Logic- im sorry but I tried to get into logic but he's just so regular. Like his raps are like going to cold stone and getting vanilla with sprinkles. It just sounds for lack of a better word average. Anywhom he's new to the scene so I'll wait to call him successful just yet #ModerateSuccess

Action Bronson- one of the few white Rappers i respect. Hes so far doing pretty well. Has a few dope songs but nothing special. Id say he's a  #Success

Kirko Bangz- xxl really was a year late on this pick One hit wonder. Flopped pretty bad #FLOP

Travi$ Scott- great artist. Has the potential to be the top.he gets a lot of hate for being unoriginal but i think he's dope nevertheless. #Success

Chief Keef - literally the easiest pick ever. released a ton of mixtapes since. A bit inconsistent. Has a lot of slept on gems tho. One of the few artists that's underrated yet overated #Success

Dizzy Wright- still kinda early to tell whether hes a flop or not. Hes still on the come up after a couple years. Something has to give. Ill give him a pass #undecided

Angel Haze- weird ass person. She apparently describes herself as agender (nongender) and a pansexual (attracted to everyone and everything)
so make of her personal life what you will. She hasn't really came up yet but she might blow up soon Idk #undecided

2014
Chance The Rapper- not a big fan but he's really creative and i like his style of uniqueness he's gonna go far #Success

Rich Homie Quan-i personally am glad he left rich gang. I love his with thug and all but the old Quan BANGED.  props to him for not fading away and Becoming another one hit wonder. #Success

Isaiah Rashad- had a decent tape but has disappeared completely. I think he has the talent but no work ethIc to match it. I'll have to wait to decide on him #Undecided

Ty Dolla $ign- good artIst. Puts out a decent amount of quality work. I think he tries a lil too hard to aim for a big hit sometimes but he's steady to survive enough in the game #Success

Lil Durk- released a decent album. Buzzin all over Chicago. But honestly i don't see him relevant in 5 years max. #ModerateSuccess

Kevin Gates- I don't GET tired. He had a hit for a while that's still doing well. Slept on a lil bit. Has some good songs on luca brasi 2 #ModerateSuccess

Troy Ave- average artist with a good song here and there but my god does he have a big mouth. Really is responsible for the failures  he faces when he has an ego that big. Even though he only did
4K
he got a lot of big names on that album so i guess he's a #ModeratelySuccessfulFlop

Vic Mensa- Vic ate good this year. U mad was arguably a hit. Signed to Roc. Him and chance were the two biggest successes out of this Class. #Success

Lil Bibby- he can really spit. Had a lot of Buzz. released a decent mixtape but Has been quiet lately. #ModerateSuccess

Jon Connor-Had a lot of hype when he signed.  dude Has been fucked hard by his label.Nobody Has heard from him since. #FLOP

Jarren Benton- Another dumb pick by xxl Just to spice things up. such a dumb magazine. #FLOP

August Alsina- was KILLIN the radio, hopping all over tracks, and more than likely stole yo bitch all in a great 2014. 2015? Has been non existent #ModerateSuccess

2015 Predictions
Fetty Wap- dude Is mad hot right now. If he keeps pulling hits out he 'll be here to stay. Hope he does.

Dej Loaf- thought she was gonna be a one hit wonder tbh.somehow with the help of a few singles she's miraculously stayed afloat. don't think she'll last long tbh. She gets tiring quickly.

Raury-  :fck: terrible artist. Honestly have no idea how his music has got him this far. Probably a textbook definition of an industry plant. Hope for the sake of music that he's stopped being shoved people's throats.

Kidd Kidd- What a waste of a pick :koolaid:

OG Maco- doesn't make amazing music. Trying to distance himself from U guessed it which Is nice but he Really needs to find himself quickly before time runs out.

Shy Glizzy-sounds super average.he for sure Ain't gonna make it

Goldlink- Yeah hes the one irrelevant artist xxl wants to add every year but he's actually not bad. don't think he'll make it very long if he does tho.

K Camp- by the time you read this he'll possibly already fall off

Vince Staples- great artist. Check out his last album if you haven't. He's here to stay.

Tink- female singer from Chicago. Works with GBE. Your prediction is as good as mine.

Saigon gave us Greatest Story Never Told. No slander for that man at all. Blu is best known as the MC to Exile's DJ as one of the best duos out. Nobody really paid attention to that Schoolboy Q beef.If you really followed Papoose and didn't get hip during Control, you'd put him under the record label drama category too.
