mos def wins this one, has done way more for hip-hop in general, has a bigger fan base / following and is arguably the better rapper
im a big fan of both.

but i will argue to anybody till the end that lupe is the most lyrical mc ive ever heard. maybe hes not "the best" overall but hes defintely the most lyrical. i say just dedicate a lil time of ur day and read this please.

I don't follow Mos Def's career like that, but from the songs I've heard he's obviously really talented. Ms. Fat Booty and Mathematics >>>>>>>>>

However, songs like Failure, Dumb It Down, The Coolest, Twilight Zone, Fire, Game Time, Put You On Game, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc means that comparisons to him lyrically should be avoided.

I don't know why it's so difficult to believe that someone relatively new could be so untouchable lyrically.  The songs speak for itself.

Shout outs to none of this having ANYTHING to do with who is better lyrically.  Learn 2 Read.  Additionally, I would argue that Lupe has more fans than Mos Def.  Why has Mos Def done more for Hip Hop? What does that even mean?  What did Mos bring to the game that Lupe hasn't?  Acting in Brown Sugar?

Lupe. He's superior, lyrically, and is far more consistent. I really like Mos Def, though - especially after "The Ecstatic".
I agree with your consistent comment because I didn't really like the new danger but how hard is it really to be consistent when you only have two albums?

The phrase "has done a lot for hip-hop" is thrown around ignorantly way too much.

That said, I also will argue with anyone that lupe has the smartest, most intelligent, most lyrical songs in hip-hop. Seriously, you keep asking people if they listened to those Mos Def songs you posted, well did you read that failure breakdown in the link like 3 or 4 people posted?

Anyway, I think Mos Def is absolutely amazing, one of my favorites. Lupe is my #1 of all time, but I can still be unbiased. I think Mos Def is much more unique and off the beaten path, and I like his beats better most of the time.

But this thread is about lyricism, and that really just isn't close.

I take it bak because of lupe's mixtapes
I was just going to say... :D
Besides, it takes skill to create two classics in a row, as Lupe did. Many MCs didnt manage this, including Jay-Z.

And lyrically

Talib > Mos
In terms of versatality, style and flow, Mos is miles ahead of Talib.
Lyrically, they're pretty much even. If Mos releases another classic, he'll definitely be the better one of the two in my book. Right now, I'm kind of leaning more towards Mos.

If you are trying to use that against me then you have to be kidding. I think I said it twice which doesn't equate to "keep asking" and I refereced them because I felt he wasn't giving mos def a chance and didnt actually listen to the songs.
