In an interview with the New Zealand news website Stuff, Blur/Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn mentions a whole mess of projects he's got in the works, including not one, not two, but three new albums.
As we reported last year, Albarn has formed a new band with Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and legendary Fela Kuti drummer Tony Allen, the latter of whom is also a member of Albarn's group the Good, the Bad and the Queen. Albarn tells Stuff that this band is about three-quarters finished with an album: "Some of my favourite African musicians will be involved, also. Flea, of course, is an anagram for "Fela", and Flea is so into this music-- so that's been great."
But first, Albarn plans to release a new Gorillaz record that he's been working on while touring with the group. He tells Stuff, "It's basically a tour diary as a record. I guess it's my love letter to America. I used to be very baffled by this place, and I guess I still am in some ways; America confused me enormously. But right now with all that's going on, this is a good place to be, and this has been a great tour. The shows have been very special."
He also tells Stuff that another the Good, the Bad, and the Queen album is in the works, though refuses to confirm or deny that there's any new Blur material on the way. He also says that he's interested in doing more film scoring, which he's dabbled in, and that he'd one day like to release a solo album of ballads.
