As an atheist I respect Buddhism for this and the fact that Buddhists themselves dont politicize it. Any religion that doesnt try to push itself on others is okay in my bookBlippy said:Do you feel as if it's a positive thing for humanity? A religion we can live with? IMO the world would be better without most religions, but this one coincides with science & can develop alongside modern discoveries.
there are several fundemental differences between the two religions that make this statement ignorant. All of said differences surround the relationship between followers of each faith and society. Buddhists do not try to force people to live in accordance with Buddhist principles through political movements as they could care less what others do. Christians on the other hand...Newlopw said:If Christianity wasn't so popular you wouldn't display so much hate towards it

Is that your personal preference..humanistic beliefs?Zeddy said:I'm a Theravada Buddhist, raised by a Muslim mom and Catholic dad. I saw it as a great middle ground between the morals i've been taught through Abrahamic religions and humanistic beliefs (atheism).

Valid answer, you even stated the notorious misconception of most religions and that is people expect to do nothing and things will just come with ease. When it doesn't they say " THERE IS NO GOD" of whatever belief you have. Relying on yourself to make things better is so truthful.Zeddy said:To an extent.
I do believe religions that incorporate the belief of God(s) sometimes put too much blame on them insteada getting off their asses and fixing things that actually, are their own faults.
But at the same time, I think to believe in no greater power than mankind is kinda ignorant, and there's times where i'd feel damn lonely and w/out hope if it weren't for the presence of something greater, that loves me, in my life.
The Shinto elements incorporated into Buddhism for that reason work great for me, you've still gotta rely on yourself to make things better, but you're given this sorta divine motivation.
because Buddhism is not a religion. it's more of a philosophyBlippy said:Do you feel as if it's a positive thing for humanity? A religion we can live with? IMO the world would be better without most religions, but this one coincides with science & can develop alongside modern discoveries.
