Yo, look at the rise of ganster rap in the 90s and now we are in this lil wayne pretty boy period of rap ... used to be people were afriad of rappers nowadays you got Tyga running around. So, my question is was the 2000ish-2005ish period where 50 cent and g unit ruled rap the last days of gangster rap being the image of rap / getting radio play?

If drake came out in 03 they wouldve laughed his ass out the game.
Just look at the change in Wayne.
If how to love came out back then. The shit he wouldve got lol.
But I'm happy it's gone this way, atleast now rappers are able to express themselves in a broader scope, rather then 'kill kill kill murder murder murder'.

Not really. Kanye came up at that time and he wasn't a gangster and nobody laughed at his ass, he changed the game and killed that fake bullshit that was going around.

yeah but kanye wasn't making soft songs like how to love when he just came out, but he is one of the main rappers to change the direction in hip hop.

But that's the thing. It's kanye. He's not a 'trend defined' artist. He just does him. That can't be said for a majority if the people out at that time

50 and G-Unit was probably the most gangsta during their times. Before them were probably NWA and Wu-Tang Clan.
After 50? No more gangsta rap. Not that I can think of. Kanye came in the game and made his own lane.

I love introspective gangsta rap... But 50 was very boring (excluding POTD / GRODT) ... Banks wasn't very good, but now is getting better, but I think he actually cares and he wants to be great... Yayo sucks..

I think Gibbs is going to be a great gangsta rapper.. I don't know if he'll be completely "mainstream"... but he'll be good.
