No shots at any religon or athiests, i just want to evoke discussion and see others view on the topic, maybe I can learn something.

started to cover the Roman empire and th begining of Christianity. As im reading the chapter, I keep questioning the whole idea of religon. It seems as if the foundation of many religions is just to give hope. Albeit that hope is needed, defintely back in the pre civilization days. The idea of morals helps make life better for everybody. Lets say ima broke boi back in the day and my neighbor Obama flexxxin all crazy, whats to stop me coming for your neck? If i thought it would risk my chances of going to some sort of afterlife maybe i would just grind it out.

So i got to thinking. Lets say there is no God as many do believe, how did EVERYTHING begin? the big bang theory? Admittingly I dont know to much about it  but from what i gather, it was a big explosion of energy that caused the formation of the universe as we know it. Ok, so where did that energy come from?  energy doesnt just poof out of thin air, it had to have a source.

:psyboom:

Once i get to that thought, God the only answer I can think of tbh

1. The definition of the word "universe" is everything that exists.
2. We're told that God is an entity with enormous powers, able to create the firmament, flood the planet, bring people back from the dead, etc. It is inconceivable that these things can be done by someone/something that does not exist.
3. Therefore, God is part of everything that exists. aka, God is part of the universe.
4. Therefore, if God created the universe, he had to have created himself.
5. This is impossible. It is a bonehead example of the fallacy of Recursion which we all learned to recognize and laugh at in any first year philosophy class.
6. Therefore, even if God does exist, he did not create the universe.

If you were to tell someone #6, they would ask you what/who did then, and you would end up at square one and going down an endless chain once again. Best answer to the question would simply be "I don't know" or "I don't care"

That's the problem. The burden of proof isn't on those who deny an existence (of anything). I admit to not knowing, and I have no problem with people of faith or lack thereof, I have a problem with people who claim they literally know how the earth came to be.

crazy thoughts
humans will never be able to wrap their minds around what went into the creation of the universe 3bh

you either believe that everything just popped out of nowhere or there's been an entity there since the beginning ( literally is the beginning) that created it.

theory is way better then fiction. and having your theories based on infrared and microwave detectors is much better then 'god'. you really think you know better then a scientist :cmon:
you really can't degrade either one. the universe popping out of nowhere could be more far fetched than a god to some or vice versa

we really can't know. and how accurate are these infrared and microwave detectors and what are they capable of detecting?

not saying i know better than a scientist but like i said they are simply theories

and because both are extremely difficult to imagine and wrap your head around, why say one is more likely than the other
