No shots at any religon or athiests, i just want to evoke discussion and see others view on the topic, maybe I can learn something.

started to cover the Roman empire and th begining of Christianity. As im reading the chapter, I keep questioning the whole idea of religon. It seems as if the foundation of many religions is just to give hope. Albeit that hope is needed, defintely back in the pre civilization days. The idea of morals helps make life better for everybody. Lets say ima broke boi back in the day and my neighbor Obama flexxxin all crazy, whats to stop me coming for your neck? If i thought it would risk my chances of going to some sort of afterlife maybe i would just grind it out.

So i got to thinking. Lets say there is no God as many do believe, how did EVERYTHING begin? the big bang theory? Admittingly I dont know to much about it  but from what i gather, it was a big explosion of energy that caused the formation of the universe as we know it. Ok, so where did that energy come from?  energy doesnt just poof out of thin air, it had to have a source.

:psyboom:

Once i get to that thought, God the only answer I can think of tbh

You're pretty much thinking of the "Argument from Necessity" by Thomas Aquinas. In order for one thing to exist, something must exist before that, and before that, and before that, and ultimately leads to "God"'s existence. He has four other arguments for "God"'s existence as well. This one to me is the strongest case though

I just checked it out, it was a mindfuck too lol but kinda goes with what i was already think just put in a more intelligent way lol. like i said, God is the most logical answer but its not logical at all :psyduckheadexplosion: i really wish there was a way to know for 100% how everything began, sadly that is highkey impossible :(

Well OP's thought process is exactly the same as Aquinas' when he came up with that argument. And obviously Aquinas' must've done something right considering his hand in Christianity and his teachings are still going on in philosophy and religious courses. Not like the core of philosophy is concrete in your face facts, its a lot of theory. Your opinion though.

You're right, there's no way to tell. One of the greatest philosophical questions of all time is "Does 'God' exist?". I think about it from time to time, especially when I'm high off my ass.
