The Real problem with Weeknd: Zero mic presence, creativity, artistry

Basically everything that should define a popular/good artist. I'm specifically talking about the last year or so or however much it's been post trilogy.

This is somewhat hard to explain but it's as if he's turned off his creative motor in every single way (lyrically, vocally) to mold his song into the pre decided drugged out ego trip bullshit he's been on for the past two years. This is blatantly evident in all of his recent failed and boring af singles. All his singles sound like Weeknd hopping on a beat that fits his 'image' and his spewing a mix of drag queen/whispering/sex&drugs&money and him riding the beat until the chorus hoping for the best. This is not music, this is hearing Abel Tesfaye drag queen across a song and then the chrous comes on, the songs aren't defining or uniquely amazing anymore. Partly because it's been done before, but mostly because he's changed.

Think of it this way, replace all of his singing from his other gbage tracks (enemy, 28, till dawn, kissland etc.) and mix them all up across songs and you won't notice a fuqing difference. Where is the soothing falsetto of "Thinkin bout you"? The non chalant and spaced out Frank in "Novacane/Pyramids pt2", The clean but aggressive vocal candor of "Adorn"? The upbeat and overly confident miguel in "Do you"? You get the point. It's part of the reason why Weeknd generally sucks live. Live is much more about the vocals and mic presence of the song, of which weeknd has none.

You're probably thinking "Then why was HoB so good?"

HoB was incredible. Songs like What you need were complemented perfectly by an aggressive and screeching performance by Abel on a lo-fi overlay. Brilliant. The fast paced but relaxed delivery on Loft Music and The Party, and of course the drugged out delivery on The Morning etc. 3 years later and he's still trying to create The Morning pt. 2 lol. I honestly believe the reason why HoB is so much better than his other work is because it was fresh. It blew minds cause no one heard anything like it before, and to Abel's credit, his vocals often matched the song. But for the past 3 years his creativity has stalled completely while bringing in different beats trying to create the exact same structure/vibe of HoB with the only differentiating factor being the production, he is no longer a true artist, and to be honest i dont think he ever was. Judging by how much he sucks now i'm starting to think he either got lucky or was carried by people he ended up fucking over in HoB (maybe why he's uncreative rhetoric now)

Oh and to you stans who think his new lyrics about coming fro poverty to seeing the whole new world is a defining/changing/hopeful moment as to what to expect on Kissland

I got a brand new place, I think I've seen it twice all year
I can't remember how it looks inside, so you can picture how my life's been
I went from starin' at the same four walls for 21 years
To seein' the whole world in just twelve months

Well probably not, if I keep my habits up
Probably not if I can't keep up with lovin'
I can't stand talkin' to brand new girls
Only bitches down to fuck when you shower them with ones
Probably not if I tweak all day just to sleep at night
God damn I'm high

So he's bragging about how successful he is now and how fast it came for him and then a couple lines later hes talking about how he cant sleep at night and fucking strippers :hah: omg you stans are seriously delusional. Enjoy your drag queen garbage

first of all fantano is one of the most respected modern reviewers in the world right now #factsonly

second of all fantano's review (5/10) is only 1 point under the concensus average (6/10) #factsonly

third of all if you're gonna talk about looks the weeknd is shorter, 2x uglier, less fit, weirder and looks like much more of a phaggot than fantano. #factsonly
Oh my bad I forgot ones musical opinion was a totally objective thing and varying ideas on a project can't exist :oblivious:

ya beauty is in the eye of the beholder too. that's why megan fox is ugly af right haha get real kid
Megan Fox is a babe I don't see your point. You're making an illogical argument. People have different tastes. There are things that are universally apparent and therefore accepted (an attractive girl is generally seen as attractive by the majority, only facing opposition from those who are trying to be edgy by having varying opinions; doesn't only apply to attraction).

Music does not fall under this category. There are so many genres and subgenres of music it's nearly impossible to categorize them all. It's blatantly obvious that people can have drastically different opinions on music from this point alone. To some, Kiss Land might be a 10. To others, it's unlistenable. And others, varying degrees of inbetweens.

Musical opinions, for the most part, are subjective.

wait so beauty is universal but art can't be? how is this true?

like you said, there are the odd amount of persons who will consider megan fox unattractive, but the vast majority will think shes a babe. so many faces, so many races yet somehow facial attractiveness is almost scientifically universal across any race with very little deviation based on education/background etc.

music is like fashion, a bit more subjective than beauty but it is ABSOLUTELY something that can be critiqued, praised, compared to its contemporaries and something that you're either amazing at or shit at. it doesn't take a genius to see that MBDTF is miles ahead of soulja boy sonically. If 9 out of 10 people respect and like MBTF and 6 out of 10 people respect and like Kissland is that not objective enough for you? or do you create your own definition of subjectivity where music is impossible to be objective whereas beauty is? (entirely and scientifically untrue LoL)

Your post was a rag on the Trilogy and the title track of KL which had nothing to do with the rest of the album songs..

The main critics that cause the 6 out of 10. Didn't like the changes since the Trilogy and praise the Trilogy. Which contradicts your whole point. You don't have a center in your argument you're just jumping around to agree with what ever diss likes the Weeknd.

And to make it so bad, Kiss Land is less darker and less drugie and you still have the same argument. But yet again your the dude that said  "Where is the soothing falsetto of "Thinkin bout you"?" When Abel use falsetto more than Frank, whole songs like Lonely Star is entirely falsetto. And your whole argument back was stupid stans, stupid stans, stupid stans, no the stans are your right. It's not the fact you diss like The Weeknd is the fact you try to ration it out with bullshit.

you're seriously off base with 80 percent of your post

-my post was not a rag on trilogy, rather a rag on his stalling creativity and and innovation (art?). HOB was incredible, i liked thursday and EOS was alright, but especially with the new singles and some of EOS it seemed as if he

"turned off his creative motor in every single way (lyrically, vocally) to mold his song into the pre decided drugged out ego trip bullshit he's been on for the past two years. comprenhesion buddy. i was giving you guys a warning of his future music, the fact that he turned off his creative motor. the whole point with the falsetto was to show you that Abel doesn't change his style or compromise image to push a certain piece of music/art. Abel sings in a falsetto 95 percent of the time, Frank Ocean did it like twice in his entire career (whole song falsetto) but he did it ARTISTICALLY because it made the song better. He innovated, took a risk and it paid off. It's one of his best songs. Listening to Abel is fucking robotic now

-Falsetto
-Drugs/Sex
-Dark Beat
-Mysterious Image
