You might think it is going to make the album sell less, but actually its pretty smart. By releasing exclusively on iTunes, people have no where else to buy the album and they want to have it early so the are forced to buy it on iTunes. Digital sales of WTT on the first day alone are already at 150k (more than MBDTF and Born This Way) making it on target to do over 400k - 500k digital alone. Now once the physical version comes out, even more people will buy the physical copy, including some people who had already bought the album on iTunes therefore making the album sell even more. They will also probably have another big second week at number one because of Best Buy's deluxe version being released. I'd say its possible for it to do 700k first week

Smart marketing scheme :datass:

It sure looks to be good. I wonder how much the extra security cost though. Maybe it wasn't even all that expensive. Either way the real results of this can be seen much later on. The first week sales can surely be high, but when it's out, the sales later on surely follow the old pattern. So how much of a difference does it really make?

The Jay-Z/Kanye West Roc-a-Fella/Def Jam/Roc Nation album, Watch the Throne, is off and running. Apple sold more than 150k on iTunes in the course of its first full day of exclusive release, and is now targeted to go "well over 500k" and more, pending its physical bow Friday (8/12), with many expecting street date violations during the week. Plenty of action to come on this one as wonderers wonder if it can hit 600k. It's also climbed to #1 in 23 countries on iTunes.
