After years of building her brand 9th Wonder's Jamla label, Rapsody has now signed to Roc Nation becoming the first woman MC on the imprint. The news was broke via multiple sources on social media. The North Carolina MC revealed the new joint venture on her page posing with a Roc Nation hat and throwing up the diamond sign. "Welcome to JamRoc," the caption reads, which is a clever combination of both label homes Jamla and Roc Nation. 9th added confirmation on his IG page. Posing with a Roc Nation cap as well, he captioned the pic, "To new beginnings….. #WelcometoJamRoc @jamlarecords is the squad….. @rocnation is the family."
Roc Nation and Jamla affiliate Young Guru also confirmed the signing on Twitter posting, "Yes @rapsody is now a @RocNation artist. I told ya we not playing with Jamla. Welcome to Jam/Roc!!" The move is much deserved. Rapdiddy has been putting in work for years now, making a name for herself as one of the dopest woman lyricist in the game. Initially in a group called Kooley High, she signed to fellow North Carolina native 9th Wonder's Jamla Records in 2008 after going solo. She has put out a total of five mixtapes and two EPs including her most recent release Beauty and the Beast in 2014. Her only solo album The Idea of Beautiful came out in 2012.
She is featured on the Kendrick Lamar song "Complexion (A Zulu Love)" off his Grammy-winning album To Pimp a Butterfly.
