What's the point in believing in God? Like, is there a purpose? I don't get it. (Keep this shit argument free.)
believing in God gives you faith in all good things i suppose.

-It helps you to believe that you have a purpose, that WE all have a purpose.

Generally speaking following a religion:

-Helps to give you guidlines on what it truly means to be a good person (not that you couldn't figure that out without religion)
-helps to focus you, teach you to be your own person under God (as ironic as that may sound to an atheist).

i think 95% of people need to believe in their minds that there is a higher power that like a few said before "give their lives purpose". and also people need comfort in their minds about whats going to happen when they die, and people who believe in got tend to believe in heaven

The fact that we use God to give our lives meaning/comfort can be independent of His existence/non-existence.  The two arguments are not necessarily related.  So yeah, maybe people do use Him for comfort their minds, but that doesn't automatically mean He doesn't exist.

Westfan:  The point of believing is that, if you believe in Him, and believe what is in the Bible, how could you not follow him?  It wouldn't make any sense.  God offers salvation, which is something every Christian wants.

despite popular belief i think the world would be in just as much chaos if there was no religion.
It's hard to tell, obviously, but I think we would have developed much more as a race by now if we weren't subjected to the vast limitations and ignorance that seems to come with religion. We still wouldn't have some sort of perfect society and totally equal and fair way of life, but there would a hell of a lot less destruction and death.

it depends. i think with religion in the beginning was that it helped balanced us on good and evil.
it made us understood that there our consequences for our actions in a way.
if we lived in a world never questioning death or what our purpose is in our life then there would be nothing to fear after, there would be no consequences for our wrong doings and therefore there would be no reason to have remorse or morals for being evil.

That's doesn't really answer my question.

Yes. I choose not to believe in a god because of the fact that I rather think that everything happens by chance or science, and not by some invisible man in the sky.
