Production Vs Beatmaking

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRODUCTION AND BEAT MAKING LADIES AND GENTS....

Quincy Jones...

He didn't play every instrument on this. So just because he only played 1, or 2 does that means he didn't produce this? :cmon:

Kanye West...
Yep this is Produced By RZA, No-I.D., Mike Dean & Jeff Bhasker, since Kanye didn't sit in front of Pro Tools or his MPC and sequence everything he didn't make this beat. Kanye looses credibility as the GOAT blahblahblah...... :bye: if you think this.

Production is pretty much in shorter terms, piecing together the song/final product. Quincy Jones & Kanye both do it, shit Dr. Dre and a lot of others do it. I don't see people bitching when it comes to other producers, but in the genre of Hip-Hop it's a big deal for some reason. Bringing in other people to help create a song is NOT a bad thing people.

Linear notes for a Quincy Jones track will just show Drums played by _____, Saxaphone played by _____, Keyboards played by ______ and etc. etc. Kanye West just puts Co-Produced by whoever the fuck and Mike Dean & Jeff Bhasker because that's how it goes. If you actually a know a thing or 2 about Kanye, you should know he used to ghost produce (aka do what Mike Dean does WITHOUT any credit at all) So Kanye is actually being cool by throwing there names out there. I mean for christ sake we have a Mike Dean face as a smiley on this website. lol. The traditional idea of production should not be shunned in hip-hop. I embrace it.

and most importantly........

GET OVER IT KTT.

Not gonna credit RZA, the main producer of the song, or did i miss something? lol
In terms of just the production and instrumentation (not saying the song is better or anything else is better), but just in terms of that, I think All of the Lights is better than Thriller. Just saying. And I know it wasn't all Ye in AOTL.
What OP said was 100% true, but besides that, I want to think of kanye as the best beatmaker of all time. Producer, beat maker, all of that. And to me, someone who does it all (triple double no assist) earns alotta respect from me. So with kanye getting all this help, the final product is probably way better and a better song comes from it. But personally i care about kanyes legacy as a goat and this puts him below someone like a rza or pharrell imo

still he has my favorite production

Kanye didn't play every instrument or maybe didn't sequence it all. But it was all Ye, his melody, his idea, his song. his royalty check lol.
Kanye doe>>>>> quinny or wutever his name is

:oblivious:

the ignorance in hip hop concerning what the real meaning of producer is, is really sad to me. great explanation OP
Mike Dean does get credit for whatever instrument he plays.

But yeah, this is a touchy subject. For example, in most bands where you have 4-5 people doing their part to create a song, usually only 2 or 3 people get credit. Why is this? Well, if you're being told what to do, you just don't get writing or production credit. You get an "instrument credit" and rightfully so.

If you actually bring something to the table, whether it be a guitar riff, or something that is focused in on and created around, then you will get production credit.

Who knows what Kanye does these days, it's hard to tell what he's produced or what he actually did on a song these days. Most people just see his name on the credits & assume that Ye did most of the work which may be the case with some songs but definitely not all of his work.

I don't even care anymore about him as a producer for that alone, he literally hasn't produced anything in 2010 besides Otis which he was forced to do. I dont even know if I Kanye deserves credit for his own sound or if his production team deserved it because it seems like Jeff, Mike & Dion can produce Kanye style records on their own.

from what i've read from several interviews from No Id and RZa etc.. Kanye does considerably less producing than he used too. On MDBTF at least, Ye wasn't doing all the programming but he was def involved. however, i think ye is given credit to those who ghosted/helped him/did most of the work instead of just claiming it all which is commendable
A producer doesn't even have to personally add anything to the track. The role can be as simple as guiding everybody else working on it in the right direction. And there's no doubt Kanye will have, at the very least, done that on anything he's released.

You always hear people praising Kanye's work ethic in the studio, and how meticulous he is. He will have had made the sure the end product sounds exactly the way he wants it to, and has everybody working their asses off to perfect the sound. That's what a producer does. Some times they'll be more hands on with instruments, DAWS, etc, but that doesn't mean they're contributing any more to the overall project and the quality of it. You can bet Kanye works harder than anyone.

Ye doesn't really hide much, he's given most of the people he's worked with credit but we never get any details on who do did what

Nah, all you have to do is interview the producer & they will tell you ....No I.D. had no problem laying it down & neither did Eric Hudson
