A pivotal difference between Melo and KD right now is that when KD has a god awful shooting performance his team can actually pick up the slack. I don't think people understand how valuable that is even when looking at an individual in retrospect. When you look at a bad Melo shooting performance, you get to single him out and tack up an L. When you look at KD, you can say he played bad but he lives to fight another day and bolster his legacy.

Over the past 3 years the Thunder have won playoff games in which Durant has shot...
Wins in 2014: 23.8% FG, 27.3% FG, 42.1 FG%.
Close games: 37% (loss by 3) 41.7% (loss by 1)

Wins in 2013: 40% FG
Close games: 23.8% FG (loss by 4)

Wins in 2012: 37% FG, 29.4% FG, 42 FG%
Close games: 42% FG (loss by 3)

So over the past 3 seasons the Thunder have won 7 PLAYOFF games in which Durant has shot sub 43% from the field. And before people say, well Durant was probably creating looks for other people in those games, he eclipsed the 4 assist mark only 3 times in these 10 games.

Looking at Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks have one a total of one playoff games (2013 Game 6 vs BOS) in which he has shot sub 43% from the field in the past 3 playoff series.

Now when looking at Carmelo Anthony's deepest playoff run (2008-09) to the WCF:
http://espn.go.com/nba/player/gamelog/_/id/1975/year/2009/carmelo-anthony

There were 5 games in those 3 series total in which the Nuggets won although Melo shot sub-43% from the field.

The KD vs Melo debate happens on here everyday. The fact is Kevin Durant has proven himself to be the more efficient, more productive, more effective and flat out superior overall basketball player to Carmelo Anthony after last season...but what can never be neglected is how KD's supporting cast assists him in being all of those things.

KD lead his team to the 2 seed in the west without westy for half of the season and an idiotic coach
Melo had the best season of his career and didn't make the playoffs in the weakest conference the NBA has seen in a long time

Tbh KD > Melo. But the margin isn't much at all and team success helps make it bigger than what it is. KD's a superior shooter which allows him to score more and do so in a more efficient fashion and kd's a bit quicker off the bounce which allows him to make more plays for himself and others consistently. That's it though.
