ya but this is assuming critics watch movies once, and usually when you watch movies you discuss it with others rather than forming your own opinions. That's why most movies that are critics have very similar scores across all critics. Where as in rap its way different, look at metacritic yourself. Music is a more personal out take in terms of art, people will consolidate with there own opinions when it comes to music, but it's different for movies.

general consensus has a lot to do w awards in movie industry. theres a pressure to give awards to the movies that are felt that they should recieve the award.

for movies, there are obvious tropes that award voters value, so its easier for filmmakers to follow them and make an oscar bait movie

meanwhile the grammy's are mostly a popularity contest, plus they don't really value super personal albums like TPAB (eg. Ye getting snubbed for MBDTF). the winner of album of the year is always either a super high selling album or a legacy act

 

critic bait is a v. real thing in movie industry. not necessarily just "politically correct" ( read: movies about slavery ) movies that are accused of it. there's a really specific look and formula to a movie that wins lots of awards and tons of movies go for it

well i mean kendrick obviously knew the album was going to sell worse than GKMC by going into those topics and making that type of music....so obviously he cared more about the message than the amount of records sold and all that shit. he couldve easily made a more commercial album and sell a whole lot more.

but i doubt people would be calling it "money baiting" or whatever the fuck....the dumb part about this is who would really go out of their way to sacrifice hundreds of thousands of records sold just so they could purposely get a few awards
