I mean regardless of how good or bad it was (I didn't like it at all) but the content of it and what he's talking about is pure critic bait I mean he simply can't lose at the Grammys
Ye has spoke on it but not like TPAB. And by you saying funk & soul that adds an even more likely hood for this to be critic bait. Mix all them together and it makes it critic bait IMO, but of course you can and do disagreeWater Giver said:Kanye has most def talked about racism and other social issues multiple times yo.
College Dropout, Late Registration, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Yeezus have songs that are specifically about racism and injustice fam.
I don't see how Jazz would be critic bait. TPAB is also Funk and Soul based as well. Status could be a factor, but bigger artists such as Drake and one's before him didn't get that high of scores. So I don't know how status really plays a role in it either. So I don't know how those would make it critic bait tbh.
I just think it's what they enjoyed and what they wanted. Kendrick went in a different direction from the norm, which most would consider critic and fan suicide. But it pulled a revese and actually worked in his favor surprisingly.
I agree with that 1000%PimpLord said:nah funk/soul/jazz is very safe esp with critics
the album is critic bait in the sense it ticks all the right boxes to get good reviews.
critic bait implies that kendrick made it to lure critics in so i don't think it's the best term to useDayviz said:I agree with that 1000%
I don't think it's as safe as people are making it out to be, plus it had a lot in it that critics could of bashed. they could of considered it anti white and out of date sounds and concepts.PimpLord said:nah funk/soul/jazz is very safe esp with critics
the album is critic bait in the sense it ticks all the right boxes to get good reviews, but did kendrick create it with the intention of baiting critics? fuck no it's clearly good timing and coincidental. it deserves the praise it gets, it's fkin amazing go listen to it again doubters
I don't know man, I still don't see how it's critic bait. That's the number one thing I've seen people use on here to try to discredit this album and the people that enjoy it, but none of them have came up with a concrete answer.Dayviz said:Ye has spoke on it but not like TPAB. In your opinion do you believe this album is flawless? Do you think it's AOTY? Also do you think it's the best album OAT?Water Giver said:I don't know man, I still don't see how it's critic bait. Having jazz, soul or funk with some consciousness doesn't automatically equal great scores especially since these are the basic foundations for rap for decades. If this is critic bait then Kanye is critic bait to is how I see it.
But yeah. It is all opinion, I guess.

Flawless? No. No such thing as flawless with anything no matter what opinion. I don't like King Kunta and I don't like For Free Interlude. But I love just about everything else about it.Dayviz said:In your opinion do you believe this album is flawless? Do you think it's AOTY? Also do you think it's the best album OAT?
Yea I know what you mean. I wasn't being serious saying he sucks because of it lol. Yeezus can def fall under this category as well but overall I'm saying that whether it's intended or not most of the top-ranked albums like MBDTF, TPAB, and Stankonia happen to incorporate elements that make them exactly what critics respond to. The albums are often still good but you just have to be kinda weary when looking at all the critical acclaim because there is a bit of a "formula" to getting major props from critics (of course not everyone can execute it well) so it's not always a proper indication of the music quality alone.Fidelio said:interesting perspective but the thing is I don't think the director of Birdman or Kendrick were trying to be artsy, they were just making what they wanted to. If anything Kanye making Yeezus screams "look how artsy I am" using industrial sounds and low-fi mixing techniques, having an album cover with no cover, naming it Yeezus, its like not even "look how artsy I am, just look at me and what I'm doing, are you mad". I like Yeezus, but your point as to why Kendrick sucks is kind of weak if him trying to be artsy in your eyes is your only point.
