Is it strange for me not to like drinking? I am by no means a mormon or someone who would like to define themselves as "straight-edged." Sometimes I feel that in defining oneself as so, one claims superiority in a condescending sort of manner, saying "I am ABOVE the influence, making you below it and therefore inferior." By I digress, sort of.
I am a college student and around my age, it seems almost expected that most of my demographic would enjoy to engage in the social activity of alcohol consumption. However, I just don't enjoy partaking in. I am in college, so obviously I have encountered it. The first party I went to was during the first week at school. They were only serving beer (watered-down, according to many of the guests) and while I didn't enjoy it, I certainly didn't hate. My attitude towards alcohol therefore remained neutral. After that, I learned that I didn't like it at a party on Halloween night and subsequently at another party sometime in February.
I don't really like the taste. But, of course, I don't think you're supposed to like the taste. I don't like the effects. I don't like the fact that it makes you, well, drunk and that it gives you headaches afterwards. So what am I supposed to like. Why is it that the majority of my school's population, and at most universities, simply love getting wasted? Every single social activity seems to revolve around alcoholic consumption. I've avoided the substance for the majority of my two years at school (with the exception of the events mentioned prior) because I don't like it, not out of righteousness or anything. Is it weird that I don't like alcohol?
