Back in late 2011 my best friend kept singing this line "cause we blowing like a c4, my whole crew blowing like a c4" and I asked him what song it was and he said Crew Love. So I looked it up and thought it was beyond dope, especially the singing.

So later on I was intrigued by who The Weeknd was so I went onto Mp3skull (where I used to download music onto my old phone back then) and just randomly searched The Weeknd. The first song I listened to was What You Need. I was just completely fucking blown away, the Aaliyah sample and the smooth beat.

Then I download The Zone which is by far the most iconic Weeknd song and my favorite to this day. Literally every time I listen to it fully it's just amazing. You know that feeling where a certain smell can bring up a past memory? It's the exact same with that song.

I also remember just browsing Twitter and EOS released and I was like what?? This dude has more music coming?? I've been riding the Weeknd train ever since.

I'm curious to know how did other people first hear about Weeknd? And what was the first song you listened to?

At the time I was really attached to another singer named Jonny Craig. He posted the 3 original songs on fb and I checked them out and didn't really care for them. I was kinda closed minded at the time tho. When HOB dropped I decided to give him another chance.. I hear The Knowing and Wicked Games and I was hooked. After that I downloaded every mix tape in full, which is something I had never done for any other new artist. Of course now I kinda have a tradition of buying a full album of an artist I've never heard before at least once a month. The Weeknd is still my favorite artist, and it still kinda amazes me that if I hadn't given him the second listen I still would be sleeping on him and would probably have never broken through my closed mindedness in music
