Well I know there are a lot of people on here who are interested in filmmaking so I decided to make a thread on it  :dno: I figured we could talk about upcoming projects we're doing or just random Film tips... or whatever we want...

Well I guess I'll get this thread started..

In one of my classes I have to make an 8 minutes short film and we're being graded on sound design. Luckily I had the idea of a horror short as soon as he said something so I'm going to Halloween stores after Halloween to pick up some fake blood cheap.. I plan on shooting it over Thanksgiving break so I'll post it up here then  :haw:...

So what are you other filmmakers up to?

Planning on making a film about a story I wrote in grade nine, (going to edit it out a LOT) I'm in grade 12 now. I really want to do it, but I have so many other things, I can't get myself to edit into a script. (Should I just leave it as a story and have them read it from there) Also, I don't have a proper camera. (Got a regular camcorder for home movie type). I'm wondering, should I still do it, I have all the camera shots in my head. I have a finished product (similar) in my head, and I love it. I'm hoping I can do justice to my own story, and also I have problems with all the casting and what not.

P.s. Calling myself a filmmaker, I love it.

currently writing the next great coming of age comedy
Haven't been able to shoot anything for a few months now, looking to hopefully write a screenplay for a short film to be shot in december.
Also hoping to shoot a video for "Streetlights" that my friend and I wrote last year but never had the chance to shoot.

For turning your story into a script.. it shouldn't be that difficult.. Is it because you don't know how to set it up or is it something else? I wouldn't recommend just keeping it as a story though..

Would it be harder to adapt? Also, it is mostly that I don't know how to set it up, also the fact that I have a lot of other things that need to be done as well. So, I haven't really had time.

If you need help setting it up I'd check this program out... http://celtx.com/ .. It's completely free and it's pretty easy to use..

I actually already have that. I've tried, but it's kinda hard for me to get the hand of it.

Got a few ideas in my head that I'd like to make into a full script, but every time I try to start it, I end up doing 5-10 pages then scrapping it afterwards. Inspiration doesn't come naturally to me, though my wild ideas seem to suggest that.
Just curious, what do you guys use to shoot?  I use a Canon HV30, which has a decently strong online community (along with the HV20 and HV40).  I like it because it shoots 24p at 1080, so my shorts look quite film like.  I haven't really done anything big though, just because it's so hard to coordinate with my friends, who would end up being the actors.  I haven't really done anything since high school (currently sophomore in college).  Plus, I want to save up enough for an external mic seeing as everything I've done is essentially silent because the camera's mic is really bad.

What do you guys use to edit?  I use both Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere, Premiere more than Vegas.
Hey if anyone wants me to read their script I'd be glad to! Just message me it, and I'll tell you what I think.
Which digital camera you think has the best image?

I mean so far, I think I'm leaning towards the Panavision Genesis.

though the Red would be close behind. i guess it depends on who's behind the camera cause david fincher made it look great with this test:

I think he used the Red for the Social Network but I haven't seen that one yet. they've shot a few movies with it actually

Che was shot with the red and that looked like film, but some of the other shots look too digital imo like the TV shows that shoot with it
