you could go chronologically starting with bob dylan, but he did make some whack albums after a motorcycle accident, i would reccomend the freewheelin' bob dylan to start out, but you can't go wrong as long as you listen to:

another side of bob dyaln
bringing it all back home
highway 61
blonde on blond
blood on the tracks

also get the bootleg series 1-3 and the no direction home soundtrack
you might just want to watch no direction home, it will really inform you of the legendary bob, and would give you something to go off of
