All time favorite movie. Will never understand the hatred towards this movie. It is ****in' brillant.

Horror movies nowadays are rarely good but when they are, they are fantastic. The people doing horror right is the French. If you haven't checked out the movie Martyrs, you are missing out. That movie is incredible.

Other recommendations:

Martyrs
Inside (└ l'intÚrieur)
Frozen
[REC] 1 & 2
Let Me In

Martyrs

That movie was ****ing awful. The hype killed it for me. It had potential, but it went to hell after the house massacre scene.

Because it's a terrible "movie" hiding behind hype and gimmick. :work:

Frozen

Also a terrible movie. You stay losing.

what are some actually scary horror films that have come out in the last 15-20 years? Are there any?

The Descent was a great movie. If you check it out, be sure to watch the original version. Not the edited American release with the dumbass ending that makes absolutely no sense.

Also, The Devil's Backbone and The Orphanage are great. Neither are terrifying, but great none-the-less.

A Tale of Two Sisters

Not necessarily a horror movie, but if you've seen the film, you'll know why I'm throwing this out there.

I **** my pants at the demon **** under the sink!! D: Even the ending is pretty creepy.

Can't believe they ****ed this movie up so bad with that goddamn remake.

It's all about the right atmosphere and those movies deliver on that level.

Exactly, but a lot of people don't pay attention to tone and atmosphere and only give a damn if something is jumping out at them. Which is what has caused the horror genre to drop teeeeeerribly over the past years.

May have already been mentioned, but...

[REC]

The Spanish original that was remade (terribly) into Quarantine a few years back. The sequel, [REC]2, is also enjoyable, but only half as great as the original. Hoping the two additional sequels in the works turn out better.

Couldn't agree more. Now it's all about the shock value. I love a good horror movie where there's suspense, the right mood. Movies like Hostel and the Saw franchise killed the whole genre. That's why I always come back to Hitch**** and Polanski's movies. That it is how you make a good horror film.

I feel it. Lately the "great" horror that's come out have just been slap-stick, half-parodies (Hatchet, Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, etc.). And they're all slasher.

Only horror I really **** with anymore is the classics and foreign horror now. Someone needs to revitalize this genre bad.

I know!
Those two were really enjoyable for a simple reason - making fun of the genre, but at the same time delivering some pretty good scares.
