i disagree, i would love to layer my samples with real instruments, i cant afford the instruments though. its dependent on the style you want, i have my own ideas but i need money to fund those ideas, Tyler just has a dope production style that works for him. thats not what i want though.

You'd be surprised at what you can use virtually to get a realistic sound. Pretty much anything except for guitars can be accurately modeled by recorded sampling. Sure, there are some features that you can't do on a keyboard (like pizzicato for stringed instruments) but most practical implementations of instruments can be done artificially. Several songs on MBDTF didn't use real instruments.... It just depends... its a nice touch but its not necessary to blow.

authentic live recorded instruments mixed properly are > anything that can be created virtually imo. personal ideas i suppose. & i prefer the feel of playing live instrumentation over vsts/sample libraries. but its whatev really. also its hard for me to find certain ethnic voice varieties in my area that dont charge for vocal work. & i need a new laptop. & my external broke, so i need a new one. so i need money.

Never said they weren't better... I said they are a luxury, not a necessity. And imo, vsts suck and they're a gimmick, so I agree with you in that sense. I just if you get a program with the right sounds, such as Reason, you have an effective alternative that won't run you dry. The 1st half of DIAND is virtual, and its still one of the best beats on the album...

nah i can record, recording is so easy to do, its actually the only thing i like being ghetto with, with a ghetto set up and a great mic you can make magic, just need good mixing. & i wish i could use Reason but at the moment i doubt my laptop can handle it, the DAW im using currently works perfect but at the same time begins lagging midway, i tried a diff soundcard, didnt help, plus school is in the way of me ever being able to produce anymore. but its cool ill get there. plus ive gotten some really ill beat(s) from you & others for my mixtape so im saving my production for my albums.
