Yeah this new album was a huge disappointment. Basically, because the MC's weren't very good. Now if Elzhi, Royce, Eminem, and Big Sean would have been on it, it would have been a completely different story. Then, maybe even just other MC's from Michigan.. or just anyone period good lord.

from an engineer on Rebirth of Detriot (found it on a rym review, not sure of the actual source)-

I'd like to clear everything up that is going on.

I worked on this project as an engineer and co-mixed two tracks(jay dees revenge & Detroit Game) plus a third (b-side) birthright.

I asked my name to be kept off credits as I felt it was honorable to leave those as Dilla produced...I also think it would have been honorable to leave them as instrumentals...When we received a flash drive of all the songs recorded for the album I had a horrible breakdown at the studio and we shut down for 3 days. I hated it. It was and is a disgrace to Dilla.

I helped and I know that my colleagues helped because we all are concerned and love Ma Dukes (Jay's Mom). Ma Dukes is very sick and can't even pay for medicine so we helped in hope of getting money for her since she needs it.

JONATHAN TAYLOR ****ED UP EVERYTHING! These songs could have been good if the right artists were picked and their verses were produced. A few people do deliver on the record, but I'm overall disappointed. JONATHAN TAYLOR is the reason why so many mediocre verses were put on this thing. He doesn't pay artists their due money, he is trying to fool Ma Dukes and is controlling her money. Watch the Danny Brown pitchfork video and you will see that JT didn't pay him for the Dilla show. He is dishonest and the reason why this album was released. It's horrible that we have to see a legacy get tainted...I love Dilla and this makes me sad.

I hope this provides some insight into why this CD was released and the unfortunate outcome of Ma Dukes not getting the help she deserves. Send Ma Dukes money before you buy this album. If you love Dilla help her...don't put money in Jonathan Taylor's pocket so he can rob Ma Dukes in front of our eyes.

Thanks. Go listen to Welcome to Detroit or Donuts...

heres Ma Dukes response posted on a dilla fan page..... there's something really fishy about this, the engineer was only passionate about dilla's art and wanted to help ma dukes without feeding the person who ruined a dilla album

“So, in the last couple of days, word has got out over an engineer who worked on Rebirth Of Detroit and posted negative comments on a forum online regarding the project.

I’m not going to bother giving that post any further light, there’s simply no need.

Instead, take word from Ma Dukes, who yesterday posted the following via her Facebook page:
Quote
“The audacity of people that want to keep me as an oppressed woman with no intelligence whatsoever! I think It’s the work of cowards and the very hatred they hold simply because they can’t be the head of an initiative.
The Rebirth is bigger than an individual movement, it’s a movement about the people as a whole. It truly is the soundtrack of the people, not a select few that have been in the mix. Time out for those that think they’re superior because of creed or color.
This is music and arts, which has no color. The very essence coming from the soul of men and their passions and gifts.
I’m so tired of petty individuals trying to crush progress and hide behind the fake screen of helping a sick old lady.
This lady has been rebirthed with a very strong constitution and has been through enough to know when someone is selfish, or entitled in nature.
The one thing I do know is that God is on my side and no weapons being thrown will stop me from honoring my son, his work or the city of Detroit. Thank God Dilla is world wide. Thank God that I have Jonathon Taylor on my side to help me in all my endeavors, and to make certain that my son’s legacy is all that I choose and covers the world in kind as he continues to touch each soul with his musical genius.”

So there you have it. Love to Ma Dukes, love to J Dilla and love to Detroit!

If you’ve got Rebirth Of Detroit playing right now, TURN IT UP.

I can't name any of the top of my head  by there must be a handful. I know he said that Funky Drummer in particular influenced his drum programming style a lot (it's been said he had the loop on for about an hour trying to deconstruct it's magic, later going on to implement it into his drums)
