The Hunger Games - floating between a 6-7-8/10 (C)

I loved the dystopian world it created, and thought it was backed by two strong leads yet the film suffered by adapting a novel written in first person. There were so many characters introduced (the first act being so long didn't help, but that was probably my favorite part of the film (Stanley Tucci >>>>)), that you never got to connect emotionally to characters like Cinna and Rue. I thought they pulled off Katniss and Peeta's relationship well enough, but obviously didn't give it enough time.

Both the book and movie did a terrible job with Thresh's character imo.

I wont lie, the relationship b/w Peeta and Katniss was my favorite part of the movie. Even though Katniss faked it, there were so many scenes where I was absorbed in their chemistry and I really freaked out (didn't read the book at the time) when the cannon went off, and we thought Peeta died, since I always thought he would die, but he's obviously a big character . And Thresh isn't meant to be a big character, he's just there to help ignite the spark of the revolution (which he does).

Yeah, I know, but he just dies in the movie by the (imo) dumb mutt dog creatures and in the book they assume he just got killed by cato, but collins never ends up telling us how he died I mean cmon, he saved the protagonists life, nahmsayin?

Not even gonna front about this one, I was mainly absorbed in Peeniss, because it's JLaw and Peeta is as close to Peter as you can get in this series :smug:

Peenis? :hah:
hey those dumb mutt creatures nearly killed everybody :sarc2:
but tons of characters save Katniss throughout the series, nothing makes Thresh special. Although when Thresh got that ****, our entire theatre clapped lol. I thought his appearance was still effective, but at the end of the day he's still a minor character.

Eh, every other minor character that wasn't a complete no-name at least got clear deaths. But then Thresh, a character we actually care about because he lets Katniss live gets some of the most ambiguous bull**** ever.

Indeed, he was just a minor character and that's where I think the series biggest flaw is. How the story is told sets up for too many minor characters, but as long as that character has a defined name, the viewer/reader will want to know what happens to them. Olivander returning later on in the HP series was great imo. So even though Thresh can't return (other than as a mutt), I still think details are needed as closure for those of us that want it.

and what I meant by dumb mutt creatures is that they were out of place to me and took away from the "real" brutality of the Hunger Games.

I also wanted more betrayal in the film. But I guess even born to be ruthless killers have morals :oblivious: then again, they are just kids.

Im sure the idea of children killing each other is big enough. But I always felt that the idea of this was never as brutal as it should've been in the movies or even in the books. It was only until Mockingjay where I felt Collins was actually focusing on the darkness of the war. And the first movie isn't as big a twist. The third movie will be very overwhelming when you see some of the changes in the characters. Hunger Games is a teaser (my big complaint was the actual games because I wanted to see some more brutality)

Lol i still loved the movie. Despite the lack of brutality, this movie painted the characters so vividly and really immersed you in their world. I thought everyone was brilliant and the relations were strengthened alot. In the first, no one wouldve cared much about katniss and peeta, since katniss always said she pretended. In the movie though there are moments where the way they act towards each other just feels so authentic and beautiful. Really good way of evoking emotion for the sequels. Woody harrelson is da gawd and provided the lulz as usual :datass:

Yeah, I'm excited to read the 2nd book. As for Peeniss, you thought her shushing him whenever he tried to spill his feelings was beautiful? :he: but no, I agree in some respects.
