best season to me, might be tied with season three.

That focus made season 4 finale ridiculous though (thought it was a dream till the credits rolled lol)

That's why I hate this season...
The 5 (or 6) first episodes were ****ing GOAT, I was expecting this show to end during this season but all went wrong from episode 7 till the end... I have to admit it was a pain in the ass to finish this season ! Episodes were rushed (Nebraska....  ), and Debra seeing a therapist really ?!
But this cliffhanger made me want to watch season 7, I love Dexter so much that even if they severly sucked during this season I'm going to watch the next one...

Yep I think everyone was shocked with this... That was nasty !!

i thought season 6 was pretty solid. I mean all the trials and tribulations crap and all the dead people was pretty amazing, plus that twister at the end   
still shocked about the season 4 finale, makes me cry every time

Dexter's actions leading to not only his wife being killed, but his son being born in the same circumstances as him. Would have been a great ending.

If you put it that way...that would've been a fantastic ending, instead of the kinda drawn out and gimmicky seasons afterwards

Sure beats Dexter incest.

You know, they really did damage the show with that. Because even if Deb backs off after finding out Dexter killed (or kills) - it will never be the same. We will always know that Deb had sexual and romantic feelings for her bro. And that's creepy and weird. I guess technically it's not wrong, seeing as they are not blood related. And the main reason incest is not practiced anymore, is because people know the genetic risks (that is originally why it was stopped).

But it's morphed beyond that reasoning, and it's also the idea of having that kind of relationship with a family member that is disgusting. Family is not blood, it's the relationships we have with people. And for all intents and purpose, Deb and Dexter are very much brother and sister. And so that is why even if they aren't blood related, I think it's 

Honestly, the only way I see out of this terrible plot idea is to kill Deb off.

Just finished all 6 seasons. Started in late March, finished last ep today. I'd rank the seasons... 1>3>4>2>5>6 (2 would be higher if it wasn't for the british chick, I hated that entire plotline). This show takes too much criticism here, but I have to admit, season 6 looked AMAZING until they did that Nebraska ****...than it fell apart. When they did the twist with Osmos being dead the whole time, it was pretty cool and mind-blowing, but they way the handled it after was horrible. The incest thing was just plain creepy and  weird.

The final twist was great. I actually didn't see it coming. I expected Louis to show up before Dex kills Colin Hanks, reveal that he is Brian's son and say something bad ass, provocative and creepy all in one, ala, his father, Brian.

I'm still excited for season 7 cause of the changed dynamic and off of the potential that the first 6 episodes of S6 showed. Brother Sam >>>> and the Four Horsemen Kill >>>>>>

Agreed. So many fans don't like 3, but it's easily the best season out of the show*. The writing, the acting, the themes. Even from an episode to episode basis, it was the most consistently great. (* Okay, I really love Season 1. So for me it's like a tie between 1 and 3).

A lot of people point to 4 and say that was the best. And I can see why. Obviously the villain is the best in the series (well, actually I liked Ice Truck Killer more from Season 1). But 4 was heavily flawed IMO. The last 4 episodes in the season falls apart as well with a lot of sloppy writing, and this was the start of the show falling apart (as these flaws carried over to the next season). While the ending was tragic, it was also bull**** how they did it (again contrived).

I also found the start of 4 to be a bit of a drag. That season really took a few to finally get the ball rolling. I found his life with Rita and family to be rather obnoxious and tedious at first.

So I get why people love 4. But I think 1 and 3 are much better seasons overall. For me it's probably

1 = 3 > 4 > 2 >  5 = 6 (I hate both 5 and 6 equally.

And there could be an argument to be made about 2 having better moments than 4 as well. The entire arc with Doakes and Dexter was intense. My only gripes with 2 is Lila. I too found her to be really annoying.
