; you think of 'straight' as normal and 'gay' as a deviation from the norm.
Well being gay is definitely different from the norms that our society has set forward.

Ah, I gotcha.

I (obviously) agree. I wish this stayed in the music section for that reason.
Trust me, you would not have gotten a good discussion in the music section about this.

I have no faith in that section to discuss anything intelligently or maturely.

Sure, gay is considered unusual. Most people experience gay feelings at times; sexuality doesn't exist in the rigid lines we set it up to be. It's also commonplace in nature for animals to be gay, have gay sex, etc. Gay is, in a significant sense, normal. Sexuality is murky, like race, as little as we want to admit it.

It's becoming more accepted in society now which is nice. It's always good to be open minded. But being gay will never be considered normal no matter how many states allow gay marriage. That doesn't mean that these people are homophobic(though some are) it's just how they were brought up.

The same things were said about race. That it'd never be 'normal' to not be white in high society. Heteronormativity is not 'scientifically' correct, and moreover oftentimes leads to homophobia. It's a dangerous, beaten path.

I have no problems with gay people. I have a gay friend that I talk to almost everyday about sports. Not considering homosexuality as normal as brushing your teeth does not make you homophobic.

Let's use a very, very dumbed down example.

Have you ever, ever, watched straight porn?

I agree, the use of certain language pretty much leads to the construction of homosexuality as "the other".

Personally, I think it'd be a pretty powerful win for me to feel comfortable listening to Rick Ross talk about killing, but cringe at the thought of Frank Ocean being in love.

Why would this be a win?

Right; I'm not trying to change the world, I'm just saying that perhaps we ought to change the way we talk if we aim to not discriminate.
I understand that but like I said, people aren't gonna stop discriminating against others :dno:
