I think Atlantic pushed Laser very hard so it would do well.Then went back and told lupe the next album he can do what ever he wants, but is not promoting it nearly as hard. So if it flops (which will be anything less than lasers according to blogs/media) , they can say I told you so and have more ammo to push him into more pop records.

I've seen this same theory suggested before and it certainly has some validity but I honestly don't think this album will flop by any standard of the imagination in the current times. It's the sequel to one of the most respected hip hop albums of the modern era and solidified Lupe's career in the first place. Lupe's just been selling more and more each album release (OG F&L got screwed by a very damaging leak) and as long as this does better than B.o.B's numbers Lu ain't got no problem 'cause his fanbase, disappointed they might be of him before now, will definitely hold him down because this album is clearly targeted at them, in order to regain whatever credibility he lost due to the Lasers "debacle."
