His family made his decision up for him.  His sister is a pro tennis player (like 250+) and she is signed to Adidas.  His dad went to USC and has a bunch of connections to the LA area.

UK was a contender given their recent championship and ability to produce top 5 draft NBA talent.  He was at UK's Midnight Madness.

Duke had Coach K.  Their only saving grace.  Not a bad thing to have, but he really wasn't considering them.
