Kardinal Offishall remembers telling Akon that Drake would become a star.

Kardinal Offishall may have a future as a music executive, as he caught on to fellow Toronto emcee Drake's star power before anyone else did.

Specifically, Kardi revealed to MTV News that he recommended to Akon that he sign Drizzy.

"The biggest one that he passed on, I told him about Drake early," he said of Akon, who has signed artists such as T-Pain and Lady Gaga. "I said, 'Kon, this kid is a T.V. star... and this kid is crazy.'"

"I had met him years before he started with his first mixtape," continued Offishall. "The thing that's dope about Drake is that I remember, like he was just hungry because he wanted to make that transition from the acting to the rapping."

"After he blew [with So Far Gone], I went back and said, 'See Kon, I told you,'" said Kardinal. "But it's one of those things that worked out beautifully for Drake with YMCMB. He's got a good camp."

Good thing he didn't. I wouldn't want Drake on any other label, because I loved SFG TML and TC and had drake signed to another label who knows what different directions he would have taken with his music?

YMCMB camp is the best camp that drake could ever go IMO.
Stunna is a real boss, he never control artists signed to the label always keep things running smooth, now akon has fell off heavy and its evident drake somehow was lucky to sign to the right label.

Shout out to Kardi though, drake should do a track with him he is a legend.

Kardinal said it was before Drake's first mixtape. Back then Akon was really popular so I think drake would've signed.

I mean there is always the chance he could have signed if kon reached out to him but I don't think he would have wanted to go in that direction & signed w/ kon anyway :kanyeshrug:

We'll never know, I'm glad he didn't though because I like how he ended up musically.
