The reason behind this is the way the genre's are for Bieber and Drake.

The days of being able to wait two years to drop an album without being a frequent on other people's tracks and expecting to sell BIG numbers are over.

Look at all the people in music who sell big numbers. The biggest sellers, regardless of genre, are Drake's, Mac Miller's, (Indie going number 1? Unheard of. Just imagine if he was on a major) the J. Cole's, and the Lil Wayne's of music.. (Disregarding Eminem and Adele. They are anomaly's. )

They are everywhere. There is never a real period to which the Wayne's and Drake's are silent. Feed the people, feed the beast. When Carter III sold A million first week that was the culmination of two years of being on literally every track. When TML dropped that was a culmination of Drake being everywhere. Same can be said when TC dropped. When Sideline Story from J. Cole dropped, he was on a lot of people's records. Even after their records drop they are everywhere. Look at Wayne and Drake's activity this summer. It's no wonder why they sell so well.

The new motto in order to sell well imo is to provide the beast with enough material. Simply put, the more you put out =the more you sell.
