What do you say to a masked man, this inglorious bastard that's rappin'

It's nothing about rape. Just saying that if a wife marries a man and she is not a virgin, the parents must prove she is a virgin. If not, then she would be put to to death. Something like that.

The Old Testament is a bunch of stories and accounts written by different people. This is not God or anyone 'teaching'. I'm pretty sure it is the law at the time.

But the Old Testament did come from Gods words, right?
Which was then voided by Christ dying on the cross and creating a new covenant

1. Context of the situation
2. Context of the overall era and that time
3. Old Testament null because of Jesus' sacrifice
4. Misinterpretation of whole "law" (i.e. you are taking it at face value when not all the Bible's stories are literal)

this reminds me of when many debates claire and eli had over their religious beliefs over the years in degrassi...eli told claire that religion is nonsense nothing more than sorcery and she rebutted with youre not as smart as you think you are...he had some good points if the bible is the only proof of christianity and you have to ignore huge segments of it to have a cohesive ideology is it really something you should put your faith in...the whole well if god sent jesus in to fix things (not just the sin of humanity but religious customs and rights that he imposed) doesnt that mean he made a mistake...he goes on and on two different testaments two different gods blah blah blah god had to create evil(saying evil is the lack of good isn't correct its dishonest really its just semantics). blah blah blah shebears mauling tens of children...claire then rebuts with the equally valid ok so the guy who still talks to his dead girlfriend is mr rational come to me with some logic when you stop blaming your fake problems on your dumb dead ex girlfriend...i dont buy either arguments i believe that a karmic force keeps the earth at just the right balance to stop it from exploding...what goes around comes around isnt just a saying to me its the pillar of my belief system...if you put good in you get good out so as long as your trying to be a good person your allright in my book...maybe all the atheists and christians on this site reexamine not their faith or lack their of in the atheists case but their beliefs and making sure their consistent with good...and and op maybe you should like eli seek professional help anti anxiety pills can do wonders for your mental health and you cant hold yourself accountable for what happened you didnt throw her into the street you loved her and even though you two had that argument before she passed im sure knows it in whatever metaphysical plane she resides

And your point is........?

Do you realized how many Christians do not even read the first 5 books of the Bible let alone the Old Testament.

Do you realize how many Christians do not even read the WHOLE BIBLE

OP

you would have looked less like an idiot if you had just said i want christians to know the old testament had some dumb laws.. end of discussion

but instead, you brought up some irrelevan stuff  christians dont use the old testament very often, it has a few life lessons you can learn but the important stuff is in the new testament, like jesus sacrifice, the new law. the new principles of faith etc

the only people who really care about the old testament are jewish people

it seems as if some Christians are hand-picking out the parts of the bible that they like..and whenever someone brings up a bad part it is "out of context"

Explain.

Everyone knows that there are some bull**** sections to the Bible. There is also a section of the US Constitution that says black people are worth 3/5 of a white person.

No document is perfect.

No, they are being sensible and contextualizes. Would you rather all Christians be literalism and take the Bible word for word? Word would be such a great place to live in I think

Well all Americans should abide by that then, very relevant to today's society and culture!

I see you have a very short fuse if anyone questions your views. Who are Christians to decide what should be taken literally and what shouldn't? Where do you draw the line? If the bible was written by God and is what we should live our lives by, then it should be clearer cut and easier to interpret imo

Well considering I am not Christian, you have no idea what you're talking about. I just find idiots who are ignorant try to criticize an entire religion rather annoying

Lets see you draw the line when a document of Laws were set down over 2000 years ago. Yes, Christians should accept all of the 613 Laws that they were given too by Moses thousands of years ago and live daily life in today's society. Makes sense right?

Please, go find me a 2000+ year old document or set of Laws that is easy to apply to today's society.

God and Jesus gave new commandments that are actually relevant to even today's society, these are the beatitudes. Also the 10 major commandment apply to today's society as well.
