There is a lot of R&B better than a lot of rap. A lot of people on this forum only know rap tho so they are going to say no.

I don't really **** with R&B as a whole but there are a few artists that are great

I think that there's a lot more variety in the Hip Hop world and so even though there's a lot of crap there are so many diverse and different classics, whereas often I find R&B can slip into being the same kid of mediocrity (from the examples I've heard)

I'm not a huge RnB fan tho, just my 2c. D'Angelo's Voodoo is my jam recently doe :datass:

I thought R&B was potentially the worst major genre of music of the last decade. No disrespect to anyone that loves R&B. But the amount of classic R&B albums released in the 2000s was frightening, and the R&B crossover songs on the radio were regularly watered down and (once again, no offense) derivative.

I do think R&B has been pretty fantastic since 2010 though, and I'm not JUST talking about Abel & Frank either.

Unfortunately, I think I did. Of course, all music is subjective and if you disagree that's 100% okay. I just think original R&B has been a dying breed (particularly last decade). I'm not going to sit here and pretend I've listened to every album by every artist you listed a few pages back, but as a whole, the genre hasn't exactly been bursting with new ideas at all. There have been great songs and a few "great" albums, but as a whole, I think the genre has kind of become forgotten and lost a lot of the luster that it used to bring. I mean, every genre goes through a period where it isn't at its peak. There will always be exceptions, but I guess the problem ultimately is that I just don't really enjoy R&B music all that much anymore.

I still stand by the fact that I think R&B is generally at a good place right now. House of Balloons and The ArchAndroid can stand toe-to-toe with any R&B album released last decade (including D'Angelo) and we're only three years into this decade. This is just my two-cents though.

EDIT: Beyonce and Maxwell both had some pretty good records recently too. Like I said, I think there's still great R&B out there, just as a genre, it's not quite as alive as hip hop and a few other genres. But that likely is just due to my personal preferences.
