Couldn't find any threads about this so i thought i'd make one.

Anyone interested in creating there own clothing line? Creating a design? Or anything fashion wise.

I've always wanted to have my own line and currently trying to sort out some designs and get some samples done.

I guess here we can share our thought's, designs and any clothes we've made.

I think that's what i'm going to do for my samples then when im totally happy with my designs and my materials i'll do it as professionally as possible.

it's best to get your shirts done professionally done first before u invest in your own machines.

Once you know the ins and outs of the process then u buy one.

either way you will be paying the same amount paying the middle man. You have to buy the shirts yourself, but you will also have to up keep your printing supplies so thats extra money you have to put into your brand.

from experience, working with a local screenprinting shop is much easier. Less room for mistakes.

with samples, theres alittle more to it. Gonna be a **** load of money if u just ask a shop to print a design on a shirt because they wouldn't be making money just doing a couple of samples. Get the design down to how u want it then send it off. Printing samples is with the intent of printing a bulk order with that factory. How I did it my first time, I submitted the design and paid for the whole bulk order including a sample. They halt all production until you approve the sample, then when you change anything or give the go ahead....you got your shirts

I wanted to do this awhile agp, and still do. It's more of a random dream then something I could commit to, but I'd love for this thread to flourish.

yeah would like to at some point, the main problem I see with most starting clothing lines is that either their designs suck, they are just jacking other brands or the quality is ****.

Wow they are sick!

The biggest problem for me is trying to implement the design, once i have one in mind or i've sketched it out do i then ask a designer to create it for me? Then once it's created how do i go about getting that on a shirt?

Sorry if these sound like dumb question's, my knowledge so far is pretty limited.

I would just create the design myself. Graphic designers can charge 300- up depending on the complexity. Download Adobe Illustrator anyway you can, then learn the program. Most people go to school for it, but just youtube the tutorials...its fairly easy once you get the basic tools down.

Once it's created, you have to measure it out...how big will it be on the t-shirt.
Figure out how many colors is the design, then call each color out as a PANTONE. In Illustrator theres PANTONE swatches, so if you started out just choosing colors randomly, you match them with the swatches. Printshops offer color matching but most usually charge extra for their time.

I really want to get into this stuff. Ive been a designer for 4-5 years but never really with clothes or accessories. I'm always at a loss for a name, but besides that; where to start?
