Put it this way. My parents would basically disown me if I didn't marry a Muslim. (I'm not affected in the slightest, since I'm going to marry one and I'm still pretty conservative in my thoughts haha.)

Americans are starting to get rid of their 9/11 muslim terrorists blablabla viewpoints, but we're still heavily prejudiced against. We're sensationalized in the media as not being the same. The whole Obama/Muslim issue, the Ground Zero Mosque, etc. Fortunately your average college student is perfectly cool with Muslims. Personally, I haven't experienced any direct slurs or anything like that, but people have definitely focused their attention on me after finding out that I follow Islam.

Muslim 'culture' tends to be...not racist, but very biased. At least in the past generations; this one is getting more liberal. Like, we're still very peaceful and all, but it's preferred that we stay with our own people and all that. But again, that doesn't stop me from like, helping anybody out or whatnot.

yeah I grew up basically in a Muslim community but when I see the parents reaction, when their kids are hanging out with others cultures, they tend to be unpleasant about it at times.
when it come to girls though, it does get out of hand. to many conflicts.

I am hardly able to go out on my own will to hang out with anyone who isn't family. But that's a combination of religion and the overprotective parents' "america is so much more dangerous than the old country". So I usually have to make excuses to get out of the house haha.

I have lots of fam up there. Never had them complain about it, but I've heard about some religious troubles that go on there. I think it has something to do with the French in general lol.

And this kinda just occurred to me. I've only had my two childhood best friends come inside my house. And that was only because it took the parents years to realize that they were good kids. I'm not phased by this at all though...I don't think that normal? lol...I don't have a problem with it, but it's so weird how you can be shaped to believe that way.

I don't know what kind of Muslims you know. No Muslim that I know of, cares who their kids hang out or what culture. And when it comes to girls they don't care either.

Where do you live? That's really surprising, especially the girl part. I mean, the girls themselves may not care, but if the parents don't, I'd be interested to know what's going on there.

edit- not that it's wrong or anything, i'm just curious.

I live in NZ. Oh you meant girls going out with guy or girls? Cos most of them don't care if they go out with other girls but it's kinda different when it's with guys.

really? they started to use black magic on my fam or if the kids disobeyed they got into trouble.
when the girls are out with a guy who isn't Muslim, tbh she wont see the light of day, once I had to hide. lol
