Then she should have control over herself and not engage in sexual intercourse. You don't want to deal with abortion? Don't have sex. And even if you want to have sex, use both a condom and birth control pills. If you don't, it's a display of a complete lack of responsibility.
Just because you use your body in an irresponsible way doesn't mean that the government then gets to restrict your rights and take away your right to choose what goes on in your body. Essentially what your saying is if you make a mistake you're not allowed to correct it another example of this logic would be if i ate ten reeses cups and then got a stomach ache by your reasoning i wouldn't be able to take some Tylenol because i displayed a lack of responsibility.

You wouldn't even know you're being buried in a casket.  All you're doing is breathing.  Nothing else about you is alive.

Same with babies in a uterus.
So am I correct in saying that you firmly believe in: "if someone is unable to think for themselves, they aren't alive." What about when you were an infant. You obviously weren't able to think for yourself. You must be dead right?

The subject matter never touched base on the government. It was always about what we consider morally and ethically correct. Also, you're analogy is completely out of line with my thought process. Instead of eating 10 Reeses cups, eat 2; moderate yourself. You know that eating 10 Reeses cups is going to have an unfavorable outcome, so why do it?

Next I want you to put yourself in the position of the aborted child. Would you like to have the right to live taken away because your parents were to ****ing irresponsible to take care of you, and too ****ing irrational in their thinking to at least put you up for adoption or sign you to a legal guardian?

Completely agree.

And even if you don't believe that life begins at conception, you still are taking someone's right to live through abortion which is equally as sadistic.

How come if a woman gets an abortion at 4 months, that's her choice, but if someone were to directly cause the death of her fetus (kick her in the stomach) he'd be charged with murder?

I'm a theist (Christian) but I like to debate on it. I like to listen to both sides of the story and get educated. As soon as I come into this thread I try to be as open minded as possible and listen to everything everyone has to say without making uneducated, arrogant, and disrespectful responses.

:golfclap: How do you percieve the bible? Do you view it's teachings as being literal of mere figures of speech?

Needs to become a "Theism vs Atheism" sticky. It would cut back on the weekly threads on the subject.

:wom: :wom: :wom: Just posted a response to this in the atheism thread. Lmaooo.

Taking what the Bible has written for face value is ignorant. It has been said in the Catholic church that the Bible is a narrative that is to be interpreted by the reader. Everyone can interpret the story a different way than the other, but actually believing that God created the Universe in exactly 6 24-hour periods, and then rested on the 7th day is illogical. You should interpret that, not have a radical ideal on it.

I see what you're saying, but without the advancements in science do you think people would still interpret the bible figuratively? The catholic church for a long time denied other theories and has since manipulated itself to fit the new found evidence. How does a Christian know what to take for face value and what to interpret differently?

I guess that's when your faith comes in to play. Do you have faith in the fact that God exists and you can not see Him? Do you have faith that Mary was faceted as having perpetual virginity, an immaculate conception, and a birth without sin? Do you have faith that through Mary, God gave his only son to the universe which later died on the cross for the sins of others?

To be a Christian you need to believe in the Church's core values and understand them, not interpret them. Things for interpretation are like: if Adam and Eve were the first humans, how God created the universe, the Garden of Eden, etc. But that brings me back to your first question, how does one determine what to interpret and what to take as face value; and in all honesty I really don't know how to fully answer your question. I guess the closest thing to an answer would be: take core values and the foundation of Christianity as face value, and all suspicious details as topics for interpretation.
