"See a lot of ya'll don't understand Kendrick Lamar
Because you wonder how I could talk about money, hoes, clothes, god, history all in the same sentence
You know what all the things have in common
Only half of the truth, if you tell it
See I've spent twenty three years on the earth searching for answers
Til' one day I realized I had to come up with my own"

– "Ab-Soul's Outro"

Schooling on Kendrick Lamar:

On December 31, 2009, Kendrick Lamar was just another talented west coast hopeful, releasing a self-titled EP in hopes that he and his crew would blow up sometimes soon. Little did he know, that within two years, he would become hip-hop's poster boy and the face of the resurgent West Coast to the hip-hop community. This is largely in part because he has eliminated any major flaws as a hip-hop artist. And that's where much of his appeal lies.

He's a technical wizard, his punchlines are dope, he has one of the best flows in the game, he's one of the most insightful rappers as of recent, he's versatile (he can make legit braggadocio and bangers), and he's creative. And he still has a very distinctive and interesting persona. Even tho he rarely talks about himself, you get an idea of how Kendrick sees the world through his lyrics.

Not to say he doesn't have work to do, because he can end up rapping about absolutely nothing at times and he can make some lowkey corny **** when being introspective (e.g.: "No Makeup") but he's more polished, skilled, balanced, and versatile than 99% of new rappers. His hook game can also be a little off at times (but not in "The City" or "P&P"). He's gotten better at this lately, if you can tell by the recent singles off good kid, m.A.A.d city.

Plus this dude has dropped one of the best projects of the of 2011 (if not THE best) and killed almost every feature. I think a lot of his fanaticism is warranted. nah he's not the GOAT or close to being the GOAT (smh if you think people are being serious with that) but he's already proven to be a good rapper and shown potential to be a very talented lyricist. He just needs a bigger body of work before he can be put in the same dimension.

^ Kendrick can flat out kill ****. His lyrics and delviery are really impressive, although he can go into spitting nonsense braggadocio at times, similar to prime Lil Wayne. His flow, inflection, breath control on his freestyles are top notch.

^ Kendrick isn't only a technical wizard. His interpretation, insight, and storytelling of people and society make him one of the of the most profound lyricists of this generation. His lyricism can be very deep and complex at times.

^ Kendrick can makes smoothass songs for the ladies, southern-influenced trill ****, and bangers without sounding corny or forced, unlike some other conscious rappers who have struggled crossing over.

^ Kendrick has been on an unprecedented run killing every feature he's been on.

You think he should try to bring back some of his **** from Overly Dedicated and the period where he made a bunch of freestyles and remixes? He has more fun music on there tbh (e.g.: P&P, 6 foot 7 foot remix, Michael Jordan, Look Out For Detox). One thing I noticed about Section.80 is that he sometimes strays from the fun vibe fo some songs like Blow My High and Hol Up and adds some serious **** to it. Like he mentions Aaliyah, Left Eye, etc on Blow My High. I think he can add more fun to his music but I don't think he should go too far out of his comfort zone.

Hate his voice. His lyrics are alright, topics are sometimes alright. HiiPower was a dope song, though Section 80 didn't appeal to me with anything else.

Tbh I just labelled him as overrated, but that was me just being ignorant.

i actually sat down and listened to Section.80, rather than just slander him without even trying his stuff.

It was a dope ass album. I'm glad I actually listened to it.
