After their show at Madison Square Garden on Monday, Kanye and Jay-Z were presented with a pair of giant platinum plaques for Watch the Throne, marking two million records sold worldwide.
The album sold 436,000 copies in its first week in the US alone, and reached #1 on the Billboard 200.
I watched the Throne last night at the Verizon Center. What a show. The energy was on a hundred, thousand, trillion the whole night. I’d wager that about 90 percent of the crowd stayed on their feet for the entire two-plus hours long show. I know I did.
It took their premiere effort nearly three-months to do so, but the collaboration LP Watch The Throne between Kanye West and Jay-Z has sold itself to platinum status, marking the sale of one million albums.
When the original schedule for Kanye West and Jay-Z’s Watch The Throne tour was released it was odd noting that the man with New York City pride that rivals that of Spike Lee left his home city out of the plans.
Blues artist Syl Johnson has filed lawsuits against several artists that sampled his music without clearance. These artists include Michael Jackson, Cypress Hill, and Wu Tang Clan. He is now coming after Kanye and Jay-Z
Released digitally last Monday, August 8th, Kanye West and Jay-Z’s Watch the Throne jumped to number one in 23 countries across the globe.
The LP is now the highest selling album in online sales history, with a record breaking 290,000 copies sold and counting. The album shattered Coldplay’s 2008 record Viva La Vida which had a digital sales record of 155,000.
The total number of digital and physical units sold will be released this Wednesday.
